Active holiday
Back to nature is the latest trend. Discover the Allgäu countryside with its animal and plant species, on foot, on skis or on the saddle of a mountain bike. The Oberstaufen holiday region offers hikers some 300 km of walking/hiking trails. En route hospitable alpine lodges invite you to linger. The mountain cableways will bring you to the starting points of numerous hiking trails e.g. on the 1.833 m high Hochgrat, the local mountain of Oberstaufen. Mountain bikers can choose from a range of tours with varying degrees of difficulty.
The skiing areas in Thalkirchdorf/ Hündle , in Sinswang and in Steibis/Schindelberg are ideal for families and beginners. With good snow conditions the Hochgrat, with over six kilometres of downhill runs, is a challenge even for experienced skiers. A four and an eight person cable car, a chair lift and 24 ski tows combine to make a 40 kilometre skiing paradise round Oberstaufen. Artificial snow making equipment in the skiing areas Steibis and Thalkirchdorf mean snow is guaranteed all winter.
100 kilometres of tracks for classic cross country skiers and for cross country skating are ideal prerequisites for Nordic sports enthusiasts. For walkers there are 60 kilometres of winter hiking trails with magnificent views of the Allgäu mountains. Snow shoe hiking, horse-drawn bobsleigh rides, tobogganing ice skating or curling and other outdoor activities offer guests a memorable winter experience.
Nordic skiing comprises the following three techniques: classic cross country skiing , athletic skating and Nordic cruising (winter hiking on skis). 12 tracks with approx. 100 km of trails with varying degrees of difficulty are at skiers disposal.
