Viehscheid - driving down the cattle
On this day the cattle, which has spent the summer on the alpine pastures, is driven back down to valley level, to be given back to its rightful owner. The herder calls out the names of the farmers to whom each head of cattle belongs. The cattle is adorned with ornate headdresses and the arrival in the valley is the start of celebration. The "Staufner Viehscheid" takes place once a year on the 2nd weekend in September. The following week Thalkirchdorf has the same celebration.
